Whisky Swap
Line up a shot of water and a shot of whisky, and then bet that you can get the two shots to switch glasses without pouring either of them into a third shot glass.
The Payoff:
Using a playing card as a lid, place the shot of water face down on top of the shot of whisky and slowly pull it back until you create a small opening between the two glasses. Amazingly, the water will sink in to the shot of whisky while pushing the whisky upward. A few seconds later, you've successfully swapped these shots
2
Coin Drop
Position an empty glass near the edge of the bar. Place a business card across the top of the glass and then balance a cigarette on top of the card. Finally, balance a quarter on top of the cigarette. This will require a little bit of effort, but it can be done. Once you're done, bet that you can get the quarter into the glass without touching any of the objects.
The Payoff:
This one's remarkably simple to pull off. Crouch down and blow upwards against the edge of the business card. The cigarette and the card will go flying, but the coin will drop straight in to the glass.
3
Olive Transfer
Place an olive on a coaster and offer to add it to a martini glass without touching the glass, the olive or the coaster.
The Payoff:
Place a separate wine glass over the olive and begin swirling it around until enough centrifugal force builds up that you can turn the glass upright with the olive in it. Then simply tip it out into the martini glass.
4
Cigarette Bend
Tell people you can bend a cigarette in half without breaking it.
The Payoff:
Roll the cigarette inside a dollar bill and then bend it all the way in half. Straighten it out again, unroll it, show everyone that it's still intact and then light it up. (Trick works better if you've already stepped outside for a smoke.)
5
Newspaper Opener
We've all seen people open a beer with the edge of a table or a lighter, but see what kind of reaction you get when you inform the crowd you can open your beer with a newspaper.
The Payoff:
Roll up the newspaper, flatten it and the bend it in half. This should create some sturdy, jagged edges. Then, similar to the way you'd pop the top with a lighter, use the edges of your newspaper to send that cap flying.
6
Square Challenge
Create a set of five squares using matches as the sides. Bet your friends that they can't move any two matchbooks to create four squares instead of five.
The Payoff:
See the video above. Move the same two matches into position and voila! Four squares, instead of five.
7
Napkin Knot
Lay out a standard cloth napkin, and bet your friends that you can tie it in a knot without ever letting go of one of the sides.
The Payoff:
This dead simple trick simply involves you folding your arms, like in the video, before picking up the napkin. It'll be awkward to grab this way, but once you've got it, pull your arms apart and the napkin will be forced into a knot that you can use to smack anyone who tries not to cough up for the wager.
Delicate Balance
Bet your friends that you can balance two forks on the edge of a pint glass.
The Payoff:
Grab a book of matches and carefully insert the tongs of each fork into opposite sides of the matchbook. Once it's sturdy, gently place the matchbook on the lip of the glass until it's balanced -- along with your two forks. Ta-da!
